A short history of Hibiscus Island

Hibiscus Island emerged as a luxury retreat for actors and media personalities in the early 1930s. These well-heeled residents built vacation homes on waterfront properties to escape the hustle and bustle of the big cities. Today, it continues to be an affluent enclave with modern mansions, 24/7 security, and notable residents who prefer to keep a low profile.

Miami Beach was once home to the famed Latin Quarter Nightclub, which was fashioned after Moulin Rouge. The nightclub featured performances by chorus girls, comedians, and artists like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Tony Bennett, who provided entertainment to winter tourists each December. The club was opened in 1940 by Lou Walters, father of news anchor Barbara Walters, before shuttering sometime in the 1960s.
