Luxury NeighborhoodsFort Lauderdale

Dubbed as the Venice Beach of America, Fort Lauderdale is renowned as a prime destination for upscale waterfront living. World-class beaches, beautiful canals, vibrant entertainment spots, and exciting cultural attractions are just some of the things both residents and visitors enjoy.

Formerly known as New River Settlement, Fort Lauderdale was named in honor of Major William Lauderdale. There were a handful of forts along the fork of New River during the Second Seminole War. The first of these forts was completed in 1838 and abandoned in 1842 when fighting ceased. The outpost was subsequently rebuilt twice, but none of these buildings survived to the present day. Fort Lauderdale's name was made official in 1911, when it was also incorporated as a city.
