A brief history of Fisher Island
The islands were built with reclaimed sand in the early 1900s. Former Paramount Pictures president S.A. Lynch developed the community in the 1920s and began selling lots in the 1930s for home construction. It quickly became popular among affluent buyers, including Hollywood A-listers and political figures. By the 1940s, its high-profile residents included Tony Bennet and Desi Arnaz. Today, Sunset Islands is still among the most exclusive places to live in South Florida, appealing to a diverse group of buyers in search of paradise on earth.
The bridges that connect the islands to each other and nearby Miami Beach were completed between 1927 and 1929. These bridges feature Mediterranean Revival design elements and were recognized as historic structures in 1996.
