60 Years of Beaux Arts
Beaux Arts is celebrating its 60th Anniversary this year and I am co-chair of the annual Beaux Arts Ball. I am honored to be co-chair especially in such a historic year.
Beaux Arts is a charitable organization that exists to support the University of Miami Lowe Art Museum. The all female organization is comprised of 100 amazingly philanthropic volunteer women and several hundred associate members and advisors. The women of Beaux Arts are passionate about the work we do supporting the arts in our community.
We organize two major events per year: the Beaux Arts Ball and the Beaux Arts Festival of Art. These are in addition to our art camp for children that runs throughout the year as well as other events.
The Beaux Arts ball is widely known to be the oldest costume ball in Miami! Katie Elliott and I are the chairs of the ball so we’ve been responsible for much of the planning. This year we chose the theme Ghouls and Glam. “Ghouls” because it will take place Halloween weekend on October 29th. And “Glam” because it is our 60th Diamond Anniversary. Attire is black tie or “hauntingly haute” and the ball will take place at the Riviera country club. A silent and live auction, raffle, surprise guests, skits and lots of dancing will all be in store for guests the night of the event.
Because of all the incredible support Katie and I have had this year from our sponsors, volunteers and ticket purchasers we have managed to sell out the event and our organization will surely raise a significant amount of money for the Lowe Art Museum. I am so happy to have contributed to these efforts and I am proud to be a member of this great organization.
5 Easy Ways to Give Back this Holiday Season
Happy Holidays from all of us at Lowell International Realty! We are very thankful for our many blessings and wanted to pass along to everyone some ideas for ways you can take a moment out of your day and give back this holiday season. You can click on any of the following organizations to donate or for more information.
Donors Choose: DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Here’s how it works: public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org. Requests range from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class. Then, you can browse project requests and give any amount to the one that inspires you. Once a project reaches its funding goal, we deliver the materials to the school. You’ll get photos of your project taking place, a thank-you letter from the teacher, and a cost report showing how each dollar was spent. If you give over $100, you’ll also receive hand-written thank-you letters from the students. At DonorsChoose.org, you can give as little as $1 and get the same level of choice, transparency, and feedback that is traditionally reserved for someone who gives millions.
Root Capital: Root Capital is a nonprofit social investment fund that is pioneering finance for grassroots businesses in rural areas of developing countries. We provide capital, financial education, and market connections to small and growing businesses that build sustainable livelihoods and transform rural communities in poor, environmentally vulnerable places. This is one of our personal favorites as the founder is Carrie Foote’s brother-in-law so we know first hand how amazing this organization is.
Miami Rescue Mission: Provides comprehensive services to the homeless and needy of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. The Miami, Hollywood, and Pompano Centers will host the Great Thanksgiving Banquet on Thanksgiving Day. Nearly 2,500 meals will be served to the homeless and needy of South Florida. Hundreds of volunteers will be on hand. Music and other events will take place and demonstrate to those in need that people really care about them – they are not forgotten.
Skip1: “It’s quite simple really: we’re asking people like you to skip 1 thing for 1 day – a coffee, a pack of gum, that magazine at the checkout stand, a car wash, a haircut, a manicure, a cab fare – take the money you would have spent on those things and donate instead to Skip1.org. Public donations go to the acquisition and distribution of food and water projects worldwide. We skip because we can. We skip because 1/6th of the Earth’s population is undernourished – more than ever before! We skip because 25,000 people die every day from hunger and related causes. We skip because every 6 seconds a child dies of hunger and related causes. We skip something because the world needs our help. Donate to Skip1.org. Skip something. Feed a child.
